In creating the work, there are many habits the creators must take note of before he/she can be successful in creativity. Are you a writer, musician, artist, and thinker?  The following habits are expected of you. Creativity is a limited subject and it entices some basic habits.

1. Deep Thinking

The first and strongest habit is deep thinking. A literary creator must be able to think deeply. He must learn how to gather his thought and focus his attention on the main theme of any genre of literature he creates.

He, therefore, has to look for a suitable place where there is no distraction of any type when he works on his literary genre. Thinking deeply comes to mind where the mind is not disturbed.

A creator ought to study the condition of whatever he says to testify whether or not the place is suitable for his writing. Thinking deeply will afford the creator the ability to focus his attention on the main theme.

2. Discipline

A literary creator must be disciplined; he ought to have self-control. A disciplined creator will be able to focus his attention on one thing.

He has the mind that he is writing for society and it is disciplined that will make his work functional for society. It is his being disciplined that will make him develop his characters with the characterization of his works.

It is the discipline that will make him have his work on the theme and aspect alone. It is the disciplines that will make his work reveal the element of the genre work.

The work of Wole Soyinka, Ola Rotimi, Chinua Achebe, and others does not disgrace anybody in the community mainly because they are disciplined. Disciplined calls for good behavior in society.

3. Endurance

A creator of any genre of literature must endure. It is the degree of his endurance that will determine his success or failure in the realm of creativity.

It is this endurance that will make him shun derogatory criticism in society. It is his endurance that makes him able to sit down for a long time and work on his genre or literature so as not to mix the trend of the event in his work.

In the case of a creator working on his genre, there might be some tragic event. This one should not discourage him. He has to learn to persevere.

4. Imagination

Another habit of a creator is imagination. He has to be imaginative. Imagination is a key phenomenon in the area of creativity.

It is a physical figure of the character, giving the character their behavior and making the non-living characters living. Imagination is so strong in the realm of creativity, that is, a creator can’t create without having this habit.

Creativity entails bringing something that has not existed to life and it is only through imagination that we can achieve this. In imagination, the minds travel widely. This helps the creator make use of his experience in the process of creating.

Imagination helps the creator exaggerate a small a long story. Through imagination, we bring spiritual elements to physical elements. Through imagination, we personify.

It is therefore a strong pole in the structure of creativity. A creator therefore should learn how to imagine. Through imagination, we bring the past to the present.

5. Concentration

A creator must be able to concentrate on the subject matter and the theme of his work. He should not jump from one subject matter to another.

He should learn to concentrate on the structure he has in mind for his work. He should make his work in the area of the result for his work. Concentration rings about the concrete element of one’s work.

6. Control of Emotion

A creator must be able to control his emotion and not allow conflict or quarrel between him and others to reveal in his work.

Control of emotion helps the creator to be able to concentrate on the theme and trend of his work. Control of emotion would help him to do away with the sentiment.

It will also help him to structure his work and develop the characters and characterization well. Control of emotion will help him abide by the principle of creativity.

7. Vigilance

A creator must be vigilant; he should not allow things to pass away unrecognized. The sounds around him should be taken note of.

So also, he should take note of the movement of human and non-human beings around him. He should have an interest in what he sees in his environment.

Vigilance helps the writer and the musician to have enough sources for any genre of literature he writes or the kind of song he composes.

It should help the creator to have enough themes for his work. For example, the writer of Daffodils (a poem) uses vigilance to recognize the beauty and the movement of flowers around the Lake and write a very interesting poem on it.

8. Exaggeration

Another habit is an exaggeration; a creator must learn how to exaggerate his work. It also helps him to give form and gravity to his character, a simple thing might become complex through exaggeration.

9. Ability to Adapt

A creator must learn how to adapt one situation for others. He should be confident to adopt one genre of literature to another. For example, Kola Ogunmola adapted the novel Amos Tutuola’s Palm Wine Drinker.

Ola Rotimi in culture adapted Sophocle’s King Audible for his play Ola Rotimi’s The Gods Are Not to Blame. Adaptation brings about change or modification that is meaningful.

10. Interest

The key to success in anything is for a creator to have an interest in any genre or literature. He must have an interest in society too.

He will be able to welcome criticism from the society for which he is writing. If he has an interest in what he is writing, he will find out the knowing that he needs to write the genre well. Interest goes a long way in achieving beautiful work.
